IELTS Reading is one of the most challenging test parts for volunteers. In this section, you have about 60 minutes to answer the questions of the three passages. Reading IELTS has various questions you need to know and prepare yourself to answer. In the following, we will introduce the types of questions and give a general explanation.

1.True / False / Not given questions

In this category of questions, you will be asked whether or not this question is in the text. In such questions, you must have a high level of comprehension to find out if this question is in the text of the passage or not.

Here is how to answer True / False / Not given questions:

  • If the question information is in the passage, use the phrase true / yes.
  • If the question information is opposite in the passage, use false/no.
  • If there is no information about the question in the passage, the Not given option is correct.

2. Multiple questions

In this category, questions are given according to the passage, with several options for each question. According to the passage, you must choose the correct choice and enter it into the answer sheet. Don’t forget that finding keywords is significant in these questions, like other questions. Because in this method, you don’t need to read the whole passage for each question. You can use them and find the answer faster.

3. Matching questions

In matching questions, you must match two sets of information. You will then be asked to find the location and paragraph of the information in the second category and match it. There is a letter in front of each of these questions that indicates a paragraph. Don’t forget that the question information will not give in the order of the passages.

4. Completion Questions

The fourth category is the Completion questions. According to the passages, in this type of question, a sentence is given in which there is a blank. You need to read the text, find the keywords and synonyms, and write the appropriate word in the blank provided. These aren’t challenging questions. Therefore, you must have high reading speed and comprehension skills.

5. Short answer questions

As it turns out, in this category, you are given questions you must answer according to the text. But these answers should be pretty short, not more than a few words. If the number of words you write in the answer is more than the allowed limit, it is an error, and you lose the score of this section. So don’t forget that your answers should be short.

Conclusion

As you read, there are five types of categories for reading questions. Therefore, you should take time separately for each category of questions and practice them in detail. Because each question is important and will improve the final score, you must have enough skills in this area.
